Newly married with very little funds, I needed to get pieces for my home that I loved based on the budget I had. Unfortunately, my budget couldn’t afford the pieces I wanted in the open market. So I started searching for more budget friendly alternatives.
I was not excited with what I found and how limited my choices where. When I realized I could make some of these pieces myself, I got into producing our first collection.
Our first customer was my next door neighbor, next my landlord Their interest and subsequent purchases made me realize I had a market. The next thing was to find a way to get people to know about my products. A storefront was the most obvious way to achieve this.
However, I still had a very limited budget so I had to cancel the idea of a physical storefront and decided to go exclusively online. There we stayed until 2023, when we opened our flagship physical storefront/showroom.
That's how the Yuli brand came to be. Why the name Yuli? It is my middle name and it literally means in one of the southern languages of Nigeria ‘home’.
